How does laser depigmentation work?Laser depigmentation uses a low-energy laser beam that safely and precisely removes the dark/brown pigment that is in the anterior part of the iris, that is, the colored part of the eye. Removing this pigment allows us to reveal the blue or green color of the eye underneath.
-
How safe is it?It is a procedure that began to be performed more than a decade ago, with thousands of satisfied patients around the world and international studies that have shown that it is safe. Additionally, it is performed by certified ophthalmologists who will put your health and the proper functioning of your eyes first.
-
What are possible complications? You may experience mild inflammation, redness and temporary sensitivity of the eye, momentary increases in eye pressure or blurred vision immediately after the session. All this on the day of the procedure, we have had no reports of permanent or long-term complications.
-
What color will my eyes be?Neither the patient nor the medical team will be able to choose the final color, since the result depends on the color you have under the melanin layer of the iris, which is eliminated by the laser. Each person has a unique color, so the final color may vary in different shades from green to blue.
-
How does this method compare to other options for changing eye color?Laser depigmentation gives you a natural look, preserving the size of your pupil and its reaction to light. It is very different from other procedures, which are more invasive to your eye, give artificial results, and use chemical dyes that can leave an irregular pupil.
-
How long does a session take? The depigmentation procedure needs several phases or stages (3 to 6), each phase carried out every 2 or 3 months (having equal rest periods). Generally, the process can take between 12 to 16 months. It depends on the degree of color change that each patient achieves in each phase. At AttractivEYES the patient's visual health will never be put at risk in order to obtain faster results or different colors than those achieved under normal circumstances and already tested in the process.
-
Can I have the procedure if I have had Lasik surgery?Yes, having had refractive surgery does not influence this procedure
-
Can it be reversed if I am not satisfied? No, the whitening carried out is permanent and irreversible.
-
Will this procedure help me see better? No, laser depigmentation is for purely aesthetic purposes and will have no effect on your vision. To treat myopia, astigmatism or other conditions, we are happy to see you at the Eye Medical Center; Visit our visual health section and learn more.
